What are we doing? Why?

For the whole time of Pete's campaign, people have told us that Orrin Hatch has said and done some dumb stuff over the past 30 years. Everything from "What do you call a Senator who has been in Washington 18 years? Call him home" Or standing on an overpass with a banner that says "18 years is long enough" or any number of contradictory statements. However, we don't have the money to fund a massive research project by a big firm. So, we can't find video, audio, or print media to back up these mistakes. So, we are depending on you.

Wait, what do I get out of the deal?

Throughout this effort, we will be giving out prizes and recognizing the best finds. Our first prize will be a seat (with your date) at Pete's table at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner on May 12 at the Hilton in Salt Lake.

Other prizes will include: special t-shirts, recognition on the website as the best researchers and volunteers, and other great gifts.

What should you look for?

There are a lot of things to look for...

  • Video of Hatch in the news
  • Old TV commmercials
  • Audio from radio interviews or ads
  • Newspaper Stories or Ads
  • Old campaign propoganda, such as
  • Brochures
  • Signs
  • Speeches
  • Bumper Stickers

Examples of success.

Where should I look?

First, look in the library. Many libraries have microfilm available to see what Hatch said many years ago. Also, if you have access to a database such as Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw, Ebscohost, or others, use those online tools. Audio and video archives are more difficult, but think about your connections. Do you know someone who could help you out? If you find something, but can't get it released, let us know; we will on getting clearances.
